I’ve been in the camp that thinks formal schooling has been pushed too early onto little kids. So I’ve got to admit that I haven’t given Loopy many opportunities to do letter tracing.

After starting Occupational Therapy, I’ve been made aware of some fine motor skills that Loopy is struggling with. So I’m trying to do more pre-literacy skills with him as well as doing everything in my power to make art projects enticing.
Getting him to connect the dots was getting frustrating, Loopy doesn’t like to be told what to do and I want to keep learning fun for as long as possible.
So I decided to take a step back and let him make the dots.
It worked out swimmingly.
Draw so big letters. OR numbers. OR shapes.
Get some Bingo Daubers (OOooo these are rainbow!)
Daub away!
Loopy had a hard time when I told him to stay ON the line. He said that he’s supposed to “stay inside the line.” It’s funny because I’ve NEVER told him to do that before. Who knows where he picked that up!
So while this activity won’t make your child have beautiful handwriting, as least letter tracing is a step in the right direction.

Have you done tweezing work? He might like that too! (to get his hands strong for holding pencils etc).

That’s a great idea! I found these chopstick/clothes pin things at the dollar store that we use to pick up beans and such.
