This is probably the most laughable title I have ever given to a post. You see, I’m not really a good mom. I have many fatal flaws, and have only survived because of someone else’s ultimate sacrifice.
But I realize that this blog may give the impression that I’m rockin’ this motherhood thing. I’m not. And what I do manage to succeed at is due in large part to my one big secret…
MY MOM.
Her Example:
My mom is a pretty spectacular lady. Her life story is crazy dramatic and she’s come out on the other side with a love for people that I just can’t explain. She’s not bitter. And she continues to let herself be vulnerable to love, invest and serve other people. My mom’s advice to me when I’m at a low point has always been, “Find someone that is hurting more than you, and love them. Take the focus from you and pour into them.”
My mom’s a pretty tenacious lady. She homeschooled my brother and me when no one had heard of such a thing. When my brother had learning difficulties, she found the cause by sheer force of will (no Google back then). The real education I received growing up was to witness, first hand, the insane amount of work and love that it took to raise a child with special needs. God knew I’d need that lesson.
Her Help:
It’s been almost a year since my parents moved across the country to live 10 mins down the road. So I’ve know what it’s like to raise little ones with little support. My mom is over here most days, playing with the kids, expanding their minds and telling them about God.
Seriously, she’s way better than a nanny.
She loves them about as much as anyone could and it’s free!
My son needs to have his sensory needs met and theraputic activities are apart of daily life. My mom “just happens to be” a certified occupational therapist assistant, meaning, she can’t diagnose, but she is qualified to do the therapy. And of course, she gladly does.
So I just wanted to “confess” to you my secret.
First off, I don’t have it all together. Second, my mom has been an amazing example and an astounding help.
And third, God’s really my secret to being a “good” mom. He’s the only good in me.
