Lately I’ve been realizing how extremely resistant my son is to anything even remotely related to handwriting.
He has been getting therapy for Sensory Processing Disorder and the Occupational Therapist has been working with him to draw a circle (not his typical spiral) and make a “criss cross”.
Call me oblivious, but I was shocked that this would be such a challenge for him.
He really dislikes when I try and get him to color. Unless of course he can hold the marker HIS WAY and draw what HE WANTS. (Just violent back and forth scribbles. Though of course they’re beautiful! 😉 )
So I’ve been wracking my brain trying to coax my budding artist to attempt the bare bones basics of handwriting. First we tried letter tracing with bingo markers.
I’ve been itching to try two materials that I’ve seen all over the blogging world.
Mirrors and Shaving Cream.
It’s all quite simple. Dollar store mirror. Dollar store shaving cream. Drop or two of food coloring.
I spread it evenly so Loopy could practice his circles and “criss crosses”.
Giggles.
My handwriting phobic son GIGGLED while doing this fun activity!
We also practiced color mixing.
Pretty sure every activity we do will involve an excavator.
I tried to get Lumpy to join in the fun, but it was a little over his head.
