My boys are all about hands-on learning. When I introduce a subject in a way that they can touch, feel and interact with, there’s a much better chance that they’ll retain the knowledge I’m trying to impart. This activity was a simple way to practice number recognition. I just combined it with a simple sensory bin.

This is some pretty open ended play. The boys just loved getting their hands all in it. They’d build “mountains” and put numbers in the tops of the “volcanoes”.
The learning comes from casual conversations I had with them while they played. “What number is that?” “Can you find the 3?” “Can you find a number greater than 6?”
