My son is a builder at heart. He has used so many random objects from around the house to make his creations. I’m always on the lookout for new building materials that can expand his creativity. Our new favorite is Bunchems. Bunchems are colorful little balls that stick to each other and build like no other. And a mom’s favorite part… clean up is a breeze because they stick to each other! The possibilities are limitless with Bunchems; they stick and stay, then pull apart easily for reimagined creations.
There are many ways to create flat and three-dimensional artwork. The easiest is to just grab a handful of balls and squish them together. The blob provides a great foundation for anything from a teddy bear to a helicopter. Another method is to stack the balls, end on end and using the pieces as a neat line or coil it around.
One of the coolest additions to Bunchems are the accessories. Googly eyes, silly hats, feet and wings galore! Each Bunchems ball has a small hole that the accessory fits into securely.
Here’s my son’s first creation.
We decided to get in the festive spirit and made some Christmas themed Bunchems. The candy cane was simple enough for my youngest and encouraged his understanding of patterns.
The Christmas tree was a blast to decorate!
When my mom came over, the boys were so excited to show her what they had made. It was hilarious to watch the occupational therapist in her take over as she couldn’t help but join in the fun! (She made the fish in the first photo.) She couldn’t stop raving about the wonderful fine motor skills that Bunchems encourage, including hand strengthening, bilateral coordination and the pincer grasp.
We’ve been enjoying these all week and I know that we’ll be enjoying them for years to come! The sky’s the limit!
