Sounds like he's certainly having a sensory issue. All kids have sensory needs, but only an Occupational Therapist can diagnose SPD. But helping him get extra proprioceptive input is a good place to start while you get medical professionals on board.

In reply to <a href="https://www.mymundaneandmiraculouslife.com/parenting-the-heart-of-your-sensory-child/#comment-13096">How to ROCK at Parenting a Child with SPD » My Mundane and Miraculous Life</a>.

My son is 10 years old. For the last 3-4 years he has been extremely over sensitive when it comes to his little sisters voice and sounds she makes. I know it's normal to be annoyed with a sibling but the way it bothers him just can't be the norm. He will go nuts, scream, sometimes cry, plug his ears, just completely lose it. He will be in his room and if he hears her he will be screaming from his room. It's taking a toll on family life, we can't do much together. There are times here and there where he will play with her and everything is fine but it doesn't last long. He also has issues with sucking noises and the sound some people make when they eat. Would you consider him a child with SPD?

My SPD warrior, now 8, has a regulation "tool box". It's an actual plastic tote with a handled lid so it's easy for him to grab on his own. It is so difficult to decipher typical attitude and age related behavior for sensory behavior (especially when they have become quite the little manipulator ) Therapy...a whole lot of therapy...has allowed my warrior to "find his power" so he can have better control of his "reactions to his bodies responses". Getting him to understand that he may not be able to control the way the world makes him feel but that he's the only one with the power to control how he reacts to those feelings has been amazing! Don't get me wrong, we still have meltdowns that require that he is rolled up in his weighted blanket while I pin his arms and legs against me while we rock (and let's be real...cry) on the floor. For every not allowed/negative behavior there are consequences but the consequences are done only after he has regulated...that way he actually knows what he did and what he has to do to make ammends for his actions. This journey has taught me that I can't make it better for him...I can only make the tools available for him to make it better. Boys will be boys...SPD or not. Have hope, Julie! (...and a huge amount of patience!)
