Baa, Baa, Black Sheep Play Dough Mat (Free Printable)

December 8, 2015 By Julie 2 Comments

I’m so thankful that Kim from Life Over C’s is guest posting for me today! I’ve always had a great respect for her as mom to a child with special needs as well as serving the Lord overseas and in the states! Her site is one of my go-to places for free printables to supplement our home school routine. You’ve gotta check it out and be sure to follow her blog on social media!

My kids have an obsession with play dough. Really. Hardly a day goes by without pulling out our play dough stash.

One big thing that we use play dough for is language development. My 4 year old has a language delay, so we are constantly coming up with new ways to inspire conversation skills and learn new words. This Baa, Baa, Black Sheep nursery rhyme play dough set is perfect for both of those needs.

My daughter loves to sing and nursery rhymes keep her connected through music, but they also introduce new topics and themes.

Baa, Baa Black Sheep is great for introducing counting to 3, colors, and fun words like “master” and “dame”.

Instructions:

I usually just let my daughters have free play when it comes to play dough, but on occasion I will jump in to spur on some conversation.

With this nursery rhyme, I would go line by line and have my daughter repeat the words or find the objects that are talked about in the rhyme.

“What sound does a sheep make?”

“Which sheep is black?” (There are white sheep included in the set for extra fun and learning.)

“Let’s count the bags of wool.”

“What is a dame?”

These are just some examples of ways that we can use this play dough printable for learning.

What would you use it for?
