Christmas Tree Light Table Play

October 10, 2016 By Julie 3 Comments

Last year, I made a DIY light table on the cheap. Our very first activity with it was decorating a Christmas tree. We’ve busted it out again this year and wanted to share some updated pictures of the fun that can be had with light table play!

After you’ve made your light table, (or maybe you’re blessed enough to have a real one!) purchase some see-thru goodies to use as manipulatives. I decided to make my own by cutting shapes out of these Transparent File Holders. I traced a Christmas tree on a green sheet with a dry erase marker and cut it out.

Then with the other colors I made various shapes in various sizes.
Last year, we managed to have a couple good conversations about shapes/colors and things that are similar/different/same. It was a great tool to introduce those concepts.

This year, Loopy was all about the decorative side of things, which surprised me. He wanted it to look good. He rearranged ornaments to show off his Christmas spirit!

Lumpy loved to fiddle with the ornaments and is starting to understand colors. (He also got a huge boo boo on his head. Poor baby!)

Merry Christmas ALL!

WHY did I not learn about light tables until my kids were at school? This looks so fun! Pinning to my preschool board!
