Dinosaur Cake

May 17, 2014 By Julie 2 Comments

Lumpy had a great dinosaur themed first birthday party. I wanted the cake to fall in line with the theme, but I also wanted to be realistic. Most cakes that I make, don’t even have frosting on them. Every time I try and frost a cake, disaster strikes. So much cake gets swept up into the frosting that I might as well just make cake balls with it.
When I saw this picture on Pinterest, I was excited. By cutting a simple round cake just so, it was transformed into a dinosaur/dragon creature. Unfortunately the site is in French. (French, right? I only took three years of it and now I’m not even sure if that’s the language I’m looking at. Oi.) So I relied heavily on the pictured and crossed my fingers.
First lesson I learned; a typical cake recipe will fill up TWO round cake tins. Good to know. I felt so much more confident know that if I messed up, I had a back up cake to work with.
Here is the cut cake.
Frosting done VERY carefully.
Then I just took some black glitter gel and went to town. The teeth and eyes are made from white chocolate chips and the spines on the back are of course kisses. I dyed some coconut green and sprinkled it on the bottom.
See? I told you it was easy!!!
