Garbage Man Pretend Play

August 9, 2014 By Julie 2 Comments

The older my kids get, the more they get into pretend play. I’m loving it! So many adventures and they want me to join in! Ah, I’ve got to cherish these times!

Pretend Play Garbage

One of our favorite scenarios for pretend play is garbage man and recycle man! We used two ottomans that are easy to push around on our laminate flooring. Then the boys each put a large bucket on top. Every loose object in the house was gathered up. I don’t know why kids are obsessed with put things into larger things and pouring things out, but they were in hog heaven!

All of this pretend play was Loopy’s idea. He decided that the couch was the landfill. So every toy and lost sock found a new home on the couch.

One of my favorite parts about this particular pretend play scenarios was that Lumpy (10 months at the time) was able to fully participate! He was at the stage just before walking where he’d push things around to move about the house at alarming speeds. I wish I could have gotten a decent picture, but he’s just a blur!

This pretend play was a great way for my boys to visualize how much space trash takes up. We discussed ways we can reduce what we throw away, so that there’s more room on the earth for beautiful nature. I could see things starting to click for them!

Be prepared, this fun can wreak havoc on your home! But it was a great way to reorganize and find those toys you hadn’t heard from in a while. 😉

This post is part of a HUGE series filled with tons of other bloggers tips and tricks to live a green, natural lifestyle. You’ve gotta check it out, especially since you can win some sweet products!
