Cooking Kids: The Simplest Cookies On The Planet

April 9, 2014 By Julie 5 Comments

We spent the month of March studying cooking and baking. This cookie recipe is another pinterest find. It’s perfect for getting young ones involved in the whole process. It’s insanely simple, cheap and rather yummy. All you need are TWO INGREDIENTS! (Though you can add yummy mix-ins)

All you need are two bananas (the more ripe, the better) and a cup of oats (quick or regular).

My son decided he wanted to add chopped organic gummy bears. What can I say, he’s brilliant! Loopy got to do so many steps with this recipe. Peeling the banana, measuring and pouring the oats (it doesn’t need to be exact, and mashing the bananas into the oats. Pretty much all there is to it.

So incase you missed it:
Mix
Two Mashed Bananas
One cup Oats (any kind)
Any mix in (chocolate chips, raisins, coconut, dried cranberries, nuts)
(The measurements aren’t exact. You’re just looking for the ingredients to hold together in a ball on the pan.)
Be sure to GREASE YOUR PAN (we used coconut oil) and then bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
Now the amazing thing is the variety you can come up with. The original blogger has also done the same recipe replacing the bananas with either pumpkin or peaches, depending on the season. Sounds amazing!

how many did this make? I’d love to do this as a baking lesson with my preschoolers but there are 16 of them. I’m thinking I’d have to at least double the recipe.

I was drawn the simplicity of this recipe & I had some bananas that needed to be used so I gave them a try. They were super easy & customizable. But I don’t think I could get my kiddos to buy-in on this being a cookie. The texture is “different”. I’m going to call them banana balls & see how they like them. Wish me luck…
