Letter Hopscotch

May 24, 2014 By Julie 7 Comments

Time for another installment of “Serious” Fun Saturdays!

Loopy has been very interested in “reading” books on his own. He knows almost all his letters and sounds, but Upper and Lowercase letters still mess him up. Loopy came up with this great game for learning about letters, using a common kitchen utensil.

But this kid is pretty rough and tumble, so I wanted to get him moving and learning at the same time. I’ve seen plenty of great pins about using painters tape on floors for all sorts of fun kids activities like this road, or this maze. The best part is that it’s completely removable!

I’m sure I’m not the first to think of it, but I decided to lay down some letters and have Loopy hop from letter to letter. I, of course used upper and lowercase letters.

Loopy got really into this. Because he has Sensory Processing Disorder, he LOVES to stomp. The more jarring the movement, the better, in his opinion.

Because the letters were facing every which way, I think it was more confusing. Next time I don’t think I’ll do that. He hopped around, and even spelled his name a couple times.

When he got bored, we brought a ball into the mix and lobed chucked it at the letters.

Mommy’s favorite part is that all this fits under our rug. So only you, my lovely blog readers, would know that there’s a letter jungle under there!

Have you used painter’s tape to make something fun for your kids? Share it in the comments below!

Boasting In Weakness: I doubt my parenting skills. And for good reason. I can be utterly selfish and explosively angry. There have been a lot of tears shed this week. Even some weeping.

I cannot MAKE my son behave. I find myself powerless as I watch him develop the same sinful habits that I showcase towards him on a daily basis. I’m a broken parent.

All I can do is invite my young one to join me at the foot of the cross. I’m ugly, but I have a beautiful Savior.

Why in the world would I tell you this? Why don’t I want you to think highly of me? Read this.

Love this! I need to get some painter’s tape. We have done something similar with sidewalk chalk, but this way you can keep it longer, and you don’t have to worry if it rains!

Fun idea. I like how you hide it under the rug but can move it to reuse at other times. Thanks for linking to Tuesday Tots. I’ve featured this post this week 🙂
